2013 Democratic Party Picnic

The Cumberland County Democratic Women’s Club hosted the Annual CCDP picnic at the Cumberland Mountain State Park on Monday, July 22.  The weather cooperated, the food was good, and everyone enjoyed lively conversation with other local Democrats.

Dennis Gregg, County Chair, spoke to the group about the importance of having good candidates for local and county offices, as well as state and federal Congressional elections, and supporting those candidates through donations and volunteering time to their campaigns.   Mr. Gregg explained the complexity of voting in Cumberland County for 2014, since there will be both a local primary in May as well as the local general election in August, which is also the primary election for state and federal offices.  The November election is the final election for state and federal offices.

State Representative Gloria  Johnson; Circuit Court Clerk  Larry Sherrill; Register of Deeds Judy Swallows; and District Attorney General Randy York each briefly spoke to encourage everyone to stay informed about issues and actively participate in our local, County and State government, and to vote and encourage family, friends and neighbors to vote.  Amos Powers introduced himself as a candidate for the US House of Representatives for Tennessee’s 6th District.  He spoke about the necessity to bring new people with fresh ideas to Congress in Washington who will represent the needs and preferences of their constituents at home.

The evening concluded with a drawing for door prizes and general agreement that the powers that be smiled down on the Cumberland County Democrats by keeping rain away and providing a cooling breeze so we could truly enjoy our evening in the park.
